As a result of Silicon Valley’s success, technology parks and centers all over the world like to tack on “silicon” to their names. These business networks and designers commonly use names such as Silicon Valley, Oasis, Basin, or Corridor. The criteria for technology zones includes the amount of spending on research and development, the share of technology jobs and firms, the area’s venture capital attraction potential, and the number of major higher education institutions nearby. Figure 66 shows the technology zones and centers. Today, there are a total of 97 Silicon Valley-like technology zones in the world called “Silicon”.
